Our Story

Since childhood Poseidon's founders we were inspired by their mother DeAnne who grew up surfing in the late 50’s and 60’s in Malibu with legends such as Miki Dora, Mickey Munoz, Dewey Weber, and the other staples of Surfrider in Malibu. They lived and breathed a raw and unadulterated surf culture from their mother and family since their Grom days.  The brothers grew older, explored life and found themselves always being pulled back to their Malibu surfing roots. In 2010 Poseidon Surf was formed to pursue their inner passions, making it an homage to their mother, a refuge for their lifestyle, and a reflection of their surfing dreams.

Poseidon strives to offer the best surf and paddle equipment and apparel available. We strive to make what we can, when we can, here in the USA. All woven clothing is designed and screen printed in Malibu, CA.

Poseidon's retail flagship store has been located in Santa Monica, CA since 2011. The Poseidon brand was originally conceived in 2008 in a small garage in Malibu, California. Christian and Matt Shubin partnered in 2010 opening Poseidon's initial retail store in Venice, CA and soon moved locations to it's current home in Santa Monica. The Poseidon team includes a diverse team of Surfers, Athletes, Musicians, Dreamers and Artists.

Christian Shubin

Founder / Owner

A lifelong surfer with deep Malibu roots, Christian co-founded Poseidon in 2010 and has helped grow it from its original Venice location into the Santa Monica surf, SUP and foil shop it is today. He remains hands-on with nearly every part of Poseidon—from selecting and testing equipment to lessons, rentals and helping customers find the right gear. His passion has always been bringing people into the water and building a community around surfing, paddling and foiling.
